the aspiration of a focused lad
I was the plan of a businessman
the love of a wife
I was the man in a soldier
the brakes in a car
I was the new years resolution
the only reason for a goal

I never did come easy
to some I came never
My patrons understood me
and their work did woo me
Every soul that I came to
had their lives told as a story

Never was I a pedestal to anything greater
I was the end, the arrival of the pauper
Laziness never could hold me
and until he arrived
I had lived with no end
My beginning, with its tuple of to-do's
became an empty list

The pauper's tatters reemerged
his scars and burns wet with pus
His mind fought to recollect them days
but the shoe glue stuck the memories in a past
a long forgotten past that I was a part of.

The chirping birds of the morning ever his friends
awoke him to the reality of the days ahead.
Oh the sweet soothing sound
only brought to a sharp end by the pangs of hunger
seemingly his end.

Friday morning had never been that blue. The air had colour and a foul smell that made one choke upon breathing. Mat za Ronga were awfully quiet on this day and the only car sound that I heard was of a yellowish Citroen ramming into the back of a pick-up truck on the road beneath us -after that, nothing. Engines were quiet and so was everyone. On the other end of town, Globe cinema roundabout had never seemed so dull and lifeless. Naomi must have been that far into town as she had told me she was nearing the roundabout when we talked on phone earlier. She was five feet seven with dark hair and a smile bright enough to light up that day, but this was not to be. Had we met, it would have been our third date. The bunch of peonies on the passenger seat of my car was slowly withering and turning colour. I had a feeling- a gut feeling that a huge change was in progress and none of us would ever be the same again. To be Continued...

I have handed the wheel over to a driver familiar with this road
I would get us lost, but He will not
I would win us death, but he'll win us life
Where there's blindness He's given sight
Where there's evil, He's brought goodness
And where there be wounds, He's brought healing

In the state of unbelief He brought forth faith
and molded my dismay into hope
My anger became inner peace
hatred became love
and regret became satisfaction

Now as I head the way of the future
I see with my spirit
hear with my soul
and act in my faith.

When you cry, I pray that only I can wipe the tears away
When you are happy I pray that it's because you are with me
When you are sad I pray that you'll seek comfort in me
Because
When I'm sad only you can lighten me up
When I smile only you can be the reason
When I dance it's coz you make me want to
When I fall it's cause I know you'll lift me up
When I love, I love only you

I'm a list of unwritten words
A Concoction of unexpressed emotions
A dry network of veins
I have a shell around my heart
A cage around my soul
An interest in a girl
But a fear of it all

She says

She can read him within his unwritten words
She can feel the emotions he tries so desperately to conceal
She can show him all the ways his dry veins make her moist
She can fight punch by punch to his heart past that seal
She can see beyond that cage where his soul has a voice

An 'interest' is not much to her my dear,
But, she'll be waiting, when he feels Her deeper than he feels fear.

It’s clear from the distance where I stand that you are deeply into it with her, in love

Your eyes dear friend when you speak of her they sparkle with pride like the morning star

She has your heart, that’s for sure, but dear friend is she really right for you?

Without all the lies that you told her about where you are from

And all the money you pretended to have just to please her

Would she still stick around if she found out the truth?

Because let’s be honest dear friend

When you show up at her doorstep without a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolate

You get the reception of a pizza delivery guy only worse without the pizza

Would she still stick around if she found out the truth?

That you are a chauffeur and the car you drive her around in is your workplace

That the expensive places you take her out to squeeze every last coin from your pocket

Or that the golden necklace you gave her last valentines belonged to your bosses side kick

Pull all these together friend and tell me, is she right?

If you proposed today and she said yes would it be because you blinded her with money

Or because she genuinely feels for you?

If you told her you couldn’t afford a honeymoon would she smile and tell you to relax because all she needs is you?

Think dear friend.

Because I see nothing in her eyes to sell love

I hear nothing in her tone to suggest love

I see nothing in her actions to express love.

But I wouldn’t blame her, I blame you

For selling to her a man who doesn’t exist!
I had imagined that the prices there would be fair compared to anywhere else in the world and I was right.Additionally, Kenya had just made its ties with India stronger in various ways and one of them was reducing the duty fee charged of any item imported from India. It was while there that I made a good number of friends and got to learn some bit of the language). Tashreef, as I had learned is an Urdu word that means 'Honorable'. My boy was definitely honorable, the son of king and his queen. lovely......... just lovely.

The tremors of my phone ringing in my pocket are now becoming unbearable. I have the perfect ringtone, but now its beginning to sound irritable. "This is a moment am having. A good one, why wont they let me have it?" I curse with the presumption that the calls all relate to work. Nonetheless, I dig out the phone from my pocket and pick up for the current caller. Its mum. She sounds utterly joyful as she congratulates me. "Hahahaha, ni kazi ya wawili mum, asante lakini.'(Its the work of two mum, thanks though). My imagination before today was that i would feel heavy in my heart once the child came into our lives and perhaps cut off everything else for him/her. However, now that I am holding him in my arms everything is a bit clearer. I can see being available at home enough hours to be with him. My heart is not heavy because i can only picture the pride that will come from teaching him how to dance and play soccer, or simply watching him learn how to fight(in an actual fight). "Am on my way there son, don't let the little one fall asleep without saying hi to Grannie." Mother says as she hangs up.
All the while, Marble is in what seems like a 'stupor'. she must be making plans in her mind of how we are going to work on conceiving the next one.... or probably not- not so soon after this experience. ........
and I call out for a nurse until one comes to us and takes Bayang with him for a quick check up to see if he is okay. I follow them first to mark the room he is in and then rush to the maternity ward where my beloved should have, by now, brought to life our baby- a boy I hope. ...........
Am breathing heavily-more of a heave than a breathe- and the sharp cry of a baby pierces into my ears tilting my movement into its direction. I cannot keep my expectations from showing on my face. that cry was definitely that of a boy." I tell myself in the midst of the rush. "well, not definitely since judging from the pitch of that voice it could be a very loud girl, but who's asking? we wanted a baby and here He was....... or she. as i advance the room where my wife is, the child's cry gets louder and an additional one comes up. A happy-sad kind of cry from a person who has just gone through an excruciating pain right before holding, in her hands, a bundle of immense joy. My brother in-law awakens me from the awing moment that catches me when i peep through the rectangular window-screened part of the door. A heavy pat on the back with congratulations in abundance. excited, I push open the door, rush to where my wife is and lay a kiss on her lips-that I doubt she has ever had before- leaving her breathless-literally- for a short while. "Am really sorry I missed it cakes, Am really sorry." I apologize. 'under normal circumstances I would have expected a ten to twenty minute scuffle or longer depending on what wrong I have done,' but today God is in my favor and forgiveness comes in like it really had to. guess the baby is already proving to be of help to me :-) ..interesting, no?
I ask to hold my child so I can feel him or her and the nurse says "Be gentle with the boy, dont squeeze his air out." Its a BOY! Yes yes yes!. In the course of the excitement filling the room-or perhaps just me because wifey falls asleep a few minutes after I take the BOY- "Tashreef!" I let out. "Tashreef will be his name." (ofcourse we'll have to discuss this when 'she' wakes up, but am quite certain that she will like it........love it.
At this point i feel am in love with whoever constructed the road since theres very little traffic- an assurance of getting there on time. There is a lot on my mind, like how is my beautiful wife Marble holding up?, is everything biologically okay?, might i miss my baby's birth!!!!? the accelerator finds its way to the floor such that my foot relaxes and the engine hums a bit louder but runs smooth anyway. The speedometer reads 180, but the momentum feels something short of 100. I had hoped to be back two days before today just in time to receive my child into the world. However, there had been complications at the oil wells in Turkana that my engineer self had to work out before leaving (damn work and its necessity!)
Now the phone is ringing-its my brother-in-law- but even picking up from my headset is proving difficult so I ignore it although I can guess what he has to say. the sweat on my forehead and cheeks creates a blur on my glasses that I force my eyes to see through. Am on a mission and it has to be accomplished.

Am getting closer to the 'concrete in the jungle' since i can see the lights and hear the electronic trains hooting as they presumably enter the station. but I do act like am older than anyone can fathom.
what brings me here today is my story about the 80's.
back then i was masculine and hairy,
body seldom bathed and shaved rarely
it was then that i worked hard literally,
'cause that was not a choice but some form of itinerary,
you either went through it, or went through it,
we had no ploughs nor cows so we had to bow,
with sticks as hoes digging shallow holes on the ground.
readying the earth for sowing so we could reap in the end

my dreams of an education had long been shuttered
with every plan that i had made having been blundered
stepped on, spat on and ridiculed by king kanda,
owner of the biggest known kibanda
He told me that my dreams were unrealistic
he changed my mind and made me pessimistic
about the hope, the dreams, anything futuristic

I lost it, the drive to become better
and follow my dreams to the letter
because everything i did ended up in a gutter
draining to places i couldn't even reach it later
I wrote a letter to the chief hoping that he would change my life for the better
but all i got was a bigger acre of land to work on.
getting paid something close to peanuts
a case of so much pain with no gain

I hated the election period 'cause it was simply a waste of time
where the resident president had us queuing for days simply to confirm his obvious return to the state house
the media called it the presidential race
but really it was just a trace, the same face same place........to be continued
If we are being honest and real then allow me to curse the big U.S.A for the tribulations they have caused our continent all in the name of aid-and AIDS. What is it about our success that bugs them? Is it the fact that we have abundant manpower, or is it the hopes and dreams that they hear we have for our future? Does is it really hurt so much to see another continent growing and becoming utterly powerful?
Who said, in the many years that the US has had independence, that they attained freedom so as to oppress others? Africa has woken up to a new dawn that threatens to thrush the other economies in the world and that is exactly what they(U.S.A) fear. They threaten our freedom to be who we are, with all the qualities that make us unique. We are constantly made to believe that our leaders are selfish and have nothing but their own interests at heart. My question is, was that the case with Gaddafi? A man who had changed Libya for more than just 'the better'. He had to be ousted because they were not comfortable with an African country and its people living comfortably with zero dependence on them(U.S.A). This great Libyan leader had plans for Africa. Ones that would change how the rest of the world views us.Libyans didn't have to pay taxes, they had free education form elementary school to whichever level they wanted to reach(Iwould have completed my PHD by now if I lived there). Gaddafi was spearheading the establishment of the African Development Bank that would greatly reduce and finally abolish pour dependence on the predatory IMF and that scared them. I can only imagine the conversation they had while conspiring to baptize him a dictator and how to incite his own people to kill him. And the fools fell for it. Look at their condition now. The 'fighters' from Benghazi that were funded by the nato(small letters because its nothing but shit) are now all confirmed members of isis (a disgrace to the Islamic religion) busy creating unrest in North Africa and the Arab states. In short, the people who are brave enough to stand against the west are always a target. They die for us while we cow away and leave them in agony-ALONE-instead of standing with them. This kind of reminds me about God. These people have grown so thirsty for power that they want to be greater than God but we all know that that will never happen because He made them who they are in the first place. They must have shared genes with the same crowd that cheered the crucifixion of Jesus Christ feeling triumphant and all. God teaches us to Love, but he made us humans so we can learn the hard way. so we can learn not to hate, but somehow this feeling is something I cant shake off. Anyway, my point is, Africa is nothing but rich in every way. say labor, we have it. say resources, we have them in plenty and that right there is why there is a new scramble for Africa. The only problem for them, is that we are now learned, armed, and ready to fight back when our freedom is violated. We are a threat to their success, and that creates a threat to our lives.
But the time flew and built a current that only swept away the efforts

he pushed away the good so he could deal with the bad, but the bad took away the good that the good had instilled in him, he became angry and mean, smiling when really, it was a disguised frown . He never hated, at least no one else but himself, for who he had become and what he had done times over. Where true happiness lay he would never know, he would never grow to be the man he saw himself to be in his future, his hope was washed away by the waves of speeding pessimism and his heart heavy with pain that he brought upon himself.

from being cared for to loving and hurting
the first steps into the world were barely discouraging
but the long strides have with them taken thy pride

with growth have come responsibilities
with these have come consequences
and a man can only stand and watch the events
for his control over them lacks
It takes time for him to learn the ways
but when he does he is on his way
could be for good or worse but the choice is for him to make
laborious it seems to walk in the light
but the truth is its harder to walk in darkness
so shall he follow the one holding the torch
or shall he be a nincompoop enough to remain hidden in the tunnel
lest he settles for the latter then judgment befalls him for his moulder jolted it down
this man fell every for steps he made from the first mile to the 100th
but then he saw that alone he would not make it so asked for a hand
the maker, being the maker, came in to help for he loved what he made
then the man lost sense of what is right and pride creeped in along with success
............the thousand mile journey still ongoing and one cant help but wonder, will
Am alone, lonely at heart
My mind wanders and wonders
I have no clue what to do today
Am stressed up and out
I just had to go out
At the lounge

It's not quiet here
not to say that i had no idea
It's as noisy as i wished it to be
My heart is thumping, my blood pumping
Vessels constricting cause there's something exciting
Am here to forget it all, the bad i mean
and enjoy the good whilst i can
at the lounge

Am here to get away from home
I live alone yet issues adorn my seemingly plain life
am eagerly hoping that the blue, no green, i mean some shade of some color, lights
work their magic on me tonight so that i can forget whatever;'s bothering me today
Am seeking something to lighten up my mood cause it's dump
Its a bit wet, but more dry
We are living at a time when the people are more enlightened than ever. The continent is consistently producing geniuses and increasing the population of such continents as Europe whose economy creates little room for procreation by the natives. Africa is a land of plenty, more so in terms of natural resources. Think of how we produce 50% of the world's gold, most of the diamonds and chromium in the world and 40% of the world's potential hydroelectric power. Additionally, Africa has millions of acres of untitled land and more recently, large deposits of oil have and are still being discovered. Essentially, the Africa that is in this 21st century is independent and has proven capable of harnessing its' own resources different from the Africa that was back before i could spell the word 'Africa'.

Nonetheless, it would seem that the ever-boastful west is hesitant to leave Africa be.I could say that it is like a mother feeling reluctant to let her all-grown-up child move out and start living on his or her own, but the truth is, the west is more concerned about what the child has to offer their homestead than about how or where they wind up in life. it would seem plausible and correct to say that, the west is afraid of Africa's potential and the possibility of the continent's population realizing their worth. Such a realization would see Africa rise to whatever the optimal economic stability and security is and our dependence on USAID and the United Nations programs quickly wither. It is with such ideas in mind that the west attempts to take control of our continent indirectly by creating puppets of leaders for us and supporting them in the elections with a promise of better relations and hefty grants. when or where such clumsy tactics fail, The able African leaders find themselves smeared with defamatory titles and with bounties on their heads. Am definitely not pointing out people like Muamar Gadaffi. It's only but a simple notion.

Am I the only who thinks that there is something fishy that goes on in any African country that attempts to explore and exploit its natural resources. Given the events that follow such discoveries as of oil and other minerals, it is possible that local African leaders play a role in the violence, but how come that most companies digging the oil wells are western? what do the African leaders have to gain and how if they have no control over the mining? I believed and continue to believe that Gadaffi was an embodiment of African liberal-mindedness. Something that sadly, brings death to Africans by the sword of the west. There seems to be a general belief among the 'non-Africans' that any African leader or rather all African leaders are criminals and warlords. Take the example of our very own Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta. One would be forgiven to think that the rule of 'innocent till proven guilty' applies even to Africans. Instead, all Africans are considered guilty until proven innocent. Is it not the west that threatened to bring us sanctions if we made the 'mistake' of electing Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta. the same west that went on a hunting spree for Gadaffi and the same west that created the ICC. The very court that barely looks anywhere else for criminals but Africa. As a continent, we need the west to respect the independence that our forefathers fought so hard for. Attempts of neo-colonization should be matched with strong resistance as we are no longer in team D of world politics. We have made our way progressively to a managerial position that allows us to have a say in how things are run here!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16052495511664879082noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-364290333070537779.post-12859468592241493502014-08-15T11:04:00.001-07:002017-07-25T09:39:13.501-07:00The womanit would seem that God requires a man to be with the woman,
so its true to say that the head is the man and the neck the woman
for the man calls the shots while the woman gives the direction for the shots
i so believe that if the man were a finger, then the woman would be the hand
because she brings to the man the support to move forth.

The woman is weak in physique but i see them as psychic
for they read a mans emotions and guide his direction of reaction
they are strong at heart and mind but it would seem that
whats in their heart controls their mind.

a woman can be good, a woman can be bad
the determining factor is the treatment the man regards
a woman's smile can signal love,
but it can also signal "you'll never have"
it all depends on how you approach

these women that we chase after from morning till the sun decides to sink into the horizon,
they can kill with a wink and give life in a blink of an eye,
in short, they can have a man they want and can get rid of a bother- if they want to
in this new world and age, the woman is the person that the man was in the last century
she now speaks for the man, talks to the man and works like a man.
the woman.

when the call came in that i was among the few chosen ones, the task ahead was all i could think of. I had finally gotten the chance of a lifetime to prove to the world that i was of mettle. you, my dear i had never seen hence the future i had planned for myself did not involve you. i wanted to be single for life, making my own decisions without weighing their impact on others including you. i wanted to live freely. .............
the pain came about like a heavy fist on a healing wound
the tears rolled down my bony cheeks in the drops of transpiration
and my stomach strained on either side like i was under constipation

My mind became almost impaired by the mention of your name
our time together brought me shame and it's kind of lame
for a man to say this but i doubt if it will ever be the same
I gave it my all but you viewed it yourself as a game

the situation changed so abruptly that i forgot to pack my bags while leaving
not that i care what i left, besides all that reminds me of the lie i'd been living
It is said that the world is tough but that love makes it all better
but what you showed me is that love's better at making the world tough

My future is indefinite for the plans we made together were my only dreams and 'fate'
but one thing am sure of is that leaving was correcting one huge mistake
am shuttered like wine glasses in a war zone
but my scars will not define how ,across the world, i'll be known

yes am broken emotionally but i'd be more broken living with a liar in their lies
she has no wings yet to me she seems to fly with her beautiful smile,
a smile that i at first thought belonged to the divinity
i was right to think that for her teeth were white and pure as Jesus' soul
i would make my way towards her even if i had to crawl

now, am not as bold as a man with a pot of gold,
but also not as cowardly as a watchman who smells death hourly,
i heard a friend say that the beautiful ones are not yet born,
but i wondered what then is she that my mind ponders on?

i don't believe in love at first sight nor do i believe in its might,
but i felt my heart look for cover in my soul for i was ready to fall,
to fall in an endless glorious fairytale of love with this girl,
a girl who'd swept me of the heels of my feet,
